| MSM: Methyl Sulfonyl Methane.
Most people have heard of DMSO, and
of how hundreds of thousands of ill people have been helped by
using DMSO. A few years ago, the world’s leading DMSO
researcher, the eminent Dr, Stanley Jacob of the Oregon Health
Sciences University, discovered and was able to isolate and
extremely important and beneficial part of DMSO.
It is determined that it was the MSM part of
DMSO that brings so many health benefits to those who suffer
from various aliments and diseases. Furthermore, MSM provides
the health-giving benefits without any nuisance side effects.
The body needs and uses MSM. Good health practices involve
replacing essential substances that our bodies naturally use
up or is lost through illness or abuse.
MSM is a form of organic nutritional sulfur
found in a variety of fresh foods, including fruit,
vegetables, meat, eggs, fish and dairy products. However,
unless your diet is composed primarily of raw foods, it is
unlikely that you are receiving enough MSM for proper health
management. It is essential to our physical well-being as it
helps us to build and maintain healthy flexible bodies.
Why take MSM? MSM
plays a major role in the processes which create a vital
healthy body. One may be allergic to the sulfa, sulfide and
sulfate forms of the sulfur family. These are the ones used as
components of drugs and preservatives. Sulfonyl is also in the
sulphur family, however, it is a nutritional form of sulfur
and you cannot be allergic to it. You need it to survive. MSM
is as safe and as important as vitamin C in our diet. For best
results, take MSM with vitamin C.
We use MSM to create new healthy cells.
Vitamins and amino acids work with MSM during this process.
Without proper levels of MSM, our bodies are unable to build
good healthy cells and this leads to illness. To maintain good
health, we need healthy flexible cells. MSM is needed by the
body for healthy connective tissues and joint function, proper
enzyme activity and hormone balance, along with the proper
function of the immune system, including the stimulation and
growth of healthy skin, hair and nails. MSM and many precursor
compounds which are readily converted to MSM in the body, are
found in most natural, unprocessed foods. However, because of
it volatility, it is readily lost during the washing, cooking,
or streaming ect. Of our foods.
Unless ones diet consists largely of raw, unprocessed foods
it is unlikely that sufficient amounts MSM will be ingested to
contribute significantly to the daily nutritional
requirements, thus furthering the high incidence of sulfur
deficient diets which exists globally.
Sulfur plays an indispensable role in human and animal
nutrition which until now has been overlooked. It is
responsible for the conformation of body proteins through the
formation of disulfide bonds, thereby holding connective
tissue together. Sulfhydryl groups are vital for the catalytic
function of several body enzymes. To perform these roles,
constant intake of biologically available sulfur is needed by
the body. It was believed that ingested sulfur bearing
proteins supplied sufficient metabolic sulfur for balanced
nutritional needs. However, it now appears that this only
amounts to about 15% of the dietary requirement and that MSM
ingestion is required in order to maintain nutritionally
adequate levels of biologically available sulfurin the body.
MSM has not yet been established to be a vitamin, yet it
does express vitamin-like moderating or normalizing activity
for various body functions. MSM supplies sulfur for the
formation of over 150 different sulfur bearing compounds in
the body. There appears to be high correlation between
abnormal physiological symptoms and low MSM blood levels in
human beings. Also, excretion data shows that MSM occurs in
lower concentrations with increasing age. Too low a body
concentration of MSM may potentially result in adverse
physical and psychological stress, tissue and organ
malfunction, fatigue, and increased susceptibility to disease.
MSM is a brain and nerve element. Sulfur creates stamina in
cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and cabbage and
brussel sprouts so they can withstand the cold. It has a
marked influence on the liver, promoting bile secretions. It
is a powerful toxin repellant, and the skin shows sulfur’s
action with eruptions of toxic materials. It helps regulate
the nervous system and temperature. It aids in the production
of protoplasm (I.e. egg, sperm) and is required in large
amounts in the hair, nails, skin and connective and other
tissues such as epithelial linings. It exhibits beneficial
effects on the cross-linking effects of hydroxyl free radical
of collagen and proteins as well.
One of the oddest things about MSM is that when taken in
sufficient amounts it gives tremendous energy and at the same
time it helps one to be calm. Creativity increases. It seems
to us that this is because MSM allows each cell in one’s
body to breathe better; and energy, health and relaxation
comprise our natural state. In this state we are more attuned
to our surroundings and creativity flourishes.
How MSM Works: MSM makes cell walls permeable, allowing
water and Nutrients to freely flow into cells and allowing
wastes and toxins to properly flow out. The body uses MSM and
vitamin C together to build healthy new cells. MSM provides
the flexible bond between the cells. Without MSM, the new cell
is not permeable, and osmosis is hampered. These cells lose
their flexibility, as with scar tissue, wrinkles, varicose
veins, hardened arteries or the damaged lung tissue of the
person with emphysema.
Conditions Aggravated by MSM Deficiency: Allergies,
sore joints and muscles, chronic fatigue, elevated
cholesterol, Candida "yeast" infections, soft and
chipping nails, hair loss, wrinkles, scar tissue, lung
dysfunction, diabetes, ulcers, migraine headaches,
Alzheimer’s and diverticulosis.
MSM has been used in conjunction with a good quality diet
to improve people’s and animal’s lives in a number of
ways. People have told us of good results in regards to the
following: Stiff and painful joints, back problems,
clearer vision, easier breathing, hearing loss, relief from
constipation, relieves itchy flaky skin, increased energy/well
being, increased flexibility, hair, skin and nail care, carpal
tunnel syndrome, clearer thinking, arthritis, emphysema, scar
tissue, diabetes, allergies, internal toxic conditions,
chronic fatigue, pets - skin disorders, yeast infections,
fibromyalgia, memory loss and acne and rashes. MSM is a useful
dietary supplement for pets as well as people.
Suggested Use: Take 1 gram. Per 30 pounds of body
weight, spreading it out in 2 to 3 servings a day. ( 1
measured teaspoon powder = 3 1/2 Grams) Start with 1/4 to
1/2 tsp. Of MSM in the AM and PM with or just after a meal.
Adjust as needed or recommended by you health care
professional. MSM can be a little bitter, we suggest mixing
very well with 8 ozs of juice, water, or breakfast drink or
mix with other cool or warm foods. Best if taken with vitamin
C. We have found a simple easy way to take our MSM. In a
gallon jug of spring water we mix in about 6 tsp. (measuring
teaspoons) of MSM then drink the MSM water through the day
rather than tap or bottled water. It is convenient and since
you need at least 8-8oz glasses of water a day, this is a good
way to get your water and MSM.
NOTE* As part of the cleansing process, you may
experience some side effects such as irritability or what is
know as a liver headache. Your body is cleaning out so quickly
that your liver and kidney are being over worked. If this
happens, reduce the amount of MSM you are taking for a few
days and increase water intake. These side effects will not
last long. It is very important that you drink at least eight
8 oz servings of water a day to maintain proper health.
MSM is available in 1 lb. jars or in bulk 1 - 5 lb. bags.
