His role: Nick Nolte's alcoholic, abusive father in Affliction.

Previous Academy honors: He co-presented (with Diana Ross) the Best Supporting Actor Oscar to Joel Grey in 1973.

  • Coburn played swinging '60s spy Derek Flint in the box-office hits Our Man Flint and In Like Flint, which helped inspire Mike Myers' Austin Powers.
  • He hosted ABC-TV's occult anthology series Darkroom from 1981 to 1982.
  • He worked with legendary director Sam Peckinpah on three films: Major Dundee, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, and Cross of Iron
