The Late Night Bright Idea That Started This
I often work late at night, or early morning. I had discussed some web changes with Gordon Bateson, my technical consultant in Japan. He and I had been eMailing back and forth the use of a program (like www.gotomypc.com but not that one) which would allow him to take physical control of my control and do anything on MY computer that I could do -- while he was in Japan.
We got that installed on Monday, March 27, 2006, and he discovered early on that it worked. We agreed that he would take control a few hours hence.
It was a strange sensation to come into my office at 8 PM and find that my computer screen was showing some activity -- but I was not causing it.
He and I then spent several hours working on this. It turns out that either person can "control" the mouse and the keyboard, but they can also conflict with oneanother in trying to control, for instance, the mouse.
I watched in silent amazement as he fiddled with MY mouse. I then started a "text message" which I know he could see because he could see whatever was on my screen and I could see. We can also connect by internet phone, but I hadn't turned that on just then.
So we each wrote, back and forth, to the other. He "showed" me things about publishing web pages.
In the process I learned quite a bit about the structure of something called "sub domains." Click Here for a thorough presentation about this concept.
A "domain" is a web address such as http://www.oralchelation.com.
Strictly speaking the "domain" is actually "www.oralchelation.com" and it is plced on the "world wide web" by a process known as HTTP:// . (hyper text transfer protocol -- as contrasted with "file transfer protocol") A "first level" of domain is the extension at the end, such as ".com" ..
The second level domain is the portion of the name that comes just before the first level, such as: http://www.secondlevel.com
The third level domain is the portion that you usually see shown as " www: "
http://www.secondlevel.com
This third level domain can actually take on any number of variations, such as:
http://thirdlevelname.secondlevel.com
(You can even create FOURTH ((or fifth, or sixth, etc.)) level domain names, such as: http://forth.third.second.com )
The "www" part of that name can be removed and another name can be used instead. The example would be"
http://NaturalFoodPantry.OralChelation.com There are two "slashes" and one colon after the "http" in the address. The first part of this name takes the place of "www." So, the first part of this name is "NaturalFoodPantry." (The web can accept either lower case or upper case for these addresses == treats them the same. If you format them as I've done it is easier to read and works just fine.)
The first above link is an active linking web page, using exactly the technique I'm describing here. Click to go to that web site.
The above address, including the "NaturalFoodPantry" name is a totally independent web address. It can be "published" on an entirely different server from the "mother" name of "oralchelation.com"
It can achieve its own search engine status and rankings. Normally those who make use of these third level domain names are simply copying information in the second level domain -- thus search engines often count that content as "spam" and won't even index the third level names. However any third level name can have its own independent content and should be indexed by any good search engine -- giving the owner of this web all the advantages of a "regular domain" plus the added benefit of being able to hook up with an existing web address that presumably has handled all the technical questions about a webmaster's duties.
Click here to review how Google ranks "third domain names" for search purposes.
The owner of "oralchelation.com" can assign any number of words to fit in front of the name to make it a full domain.
A full domain name is: http://www.oralchelation.com
A full domain name is http://NaturalFoodPantry.oralchelation.com
Strangely, this is ALSO a usable domain name:
http://www.NaturalFoodPantry.oralchelation.com
The "www" portion of the name acts like a fourth level domain!
And, EVEN THIS works OK:
http://oralchelation.com !!!
I realized that this ability to name hundreds or thousands of web sites which could be linked to the "mother" web site gave us a golden opportunity for an expansion of marketing.
There is another remarkable development coming along on the web -- one that we can include in all of these sub domains. This development involves putting a simple source of my voice, and/or the store owner's voice, into recorded messages that can play automatically, or on demand when someone visits a web page. Click here for more details.
I resolved to write my thoughts on the expansion of our business in an eMail, in my excitement, in the middle of the night, to those I thought might be interested. That ACTUAL eMail is HERE.
I had already started thinking about one of the biggest problems I see in commerce on this planet -- price discounting. I wrote about that HERE -- and urge you to read that. (It is on a restricted web site -- the same USERID and Password that got you into this web site will work on that one.)
I had already come to realize what it takes to be very successful with your marketing
and wrote that here. The image on the right tells this whole story -- but the much deeper signficance of this concept is how it relates to the Management System developed by Mr. L. Ron Hubbard -- the System by which I run my business and the System without witch I could never have done the details of the Plan that is presented in these pages!
I had been struggling with the task of reconciling my great trust in my good business friend in India, and he in me, but trying to fit those concepts in with what I thought laws and customs for international business called for.
The biggest problem I see in much marketing is two fold:
1. Many, probably most, commercial firms do NOT have the best interests of their customers at heart. They are more than willing, often to increase sales by discounting prices -- bringing about an irrefutable trend toward poorer and poorer quality. Thus, as I reference above, "competition" leads to price discounts and that leads to firms trying to stay in business without adequate profits -- they then cheapen the produt in order to stay alive.
There is hardly anything more stupid, in my opinion, than a person who actually believes in the sign that says "95% Discount!'

I have refused to do this, but when I thought about "MSM" (Methyl Sulfonyl Methane) which my friend produces in India, and which we sell in the US, I thought of MSM as a "bulk commodity" where every person's MSM is just as good as any other person's MSM.
There are many products like this - they tend to be sold on the basis of price only -- only a few very solid companies can afford to stay in such a business. Discount coupons at supermarkets? That is about the dumbest thing I've seen -- yet a large number of people are attracted to them.
2. The existence of anti-trust and price-fixing laws is almost universal across
all boundaries of the planet. Even where these laws exist, even have teeth, much of business is often an effort to control prices so that discounts don't eat away at your survival.
I have long felt that the usual multi-level marketing company (MLM) manages to avoid the problems of discounting with their unusual business model. Every independent distributor buys at the same wholesale price -- whether big or small. There is very little profit to be had from buying at these wholesale prices and trying to sell at some artificiaL "suggested retail price" when almost every other distributor is willing to sell at his wholesale cost just to get a customer and build up volume, etc. I won't go into it all now, but the MLM business model avoids price competition and thus individual distributors succeed, or fail, without use of discounts, and depend on superior skill at recruitiung and "non-price marketing." The image in the above left is "Amway India." Why do you suppose that most MLM companies have found it easiest to expand in non-US locations? That is worth finding an answer to also.
The "franchise business" is another business model that allows ONE SOURCE to control the retail selling price -- and avoid the terrible prospect of different "McDonald's stores" from competiing with one another by price! Their competition is mostly by location and also by service.
I've long known of a business model that would allow control of final salses prices without breaking the price-fixing laws. I've researched this extensively and published those results HERE. More work needs doing on this and a tight legal contract needs writing to be able to "appoint registered agents" who will receive goods shipped from VL "on consigment." This means that they, acting as agents, do not take ownership of the goods and do not pay for them until, under their agency agreement, they sell them. Click here for a detailed review of the laws in various Asian countries.
Click Here to review a sample actual "Consigment Agreement" contract. This sample agreement is written by the AGENT in the relationship between the AGENT and the CONSIGNOR. Since it is the AGENT's document the terms are mostly designed to favor the AGENT. In OUR case we expect the AGENT to pay a fee for the priviledge of becoming an Agent and thus the terms of the agreement would appropriately favor the consignor rather than the agent.
That sample agreement has been revised to serve as a prospective Consigment Agent Agreement shown HERE.
The problem with this business model seems to have always been that it takes both a large amount of capital to ship to someone and not get paid until HE makes the sale on your behalf. Also, there is the not-uncommon problem of these people "going south" with your goods, or with the proceeds of the sale.
